COLE IS GOING HOME!!!!!!  FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AUGUST 31, 2007

I cannot believe I am actually sending out this email. It is so surreal.
I am sure most of you are guessing and probably guessing correctly on what the next line is going to be!
WE ARE GOING HOME!
WOW I have been saying repeating this over and over again today and I must say, I have tears in my eyes. The emotions are so hard to explain.
We are very excited however we still have a few days left and anything can happen so we are trying to be a little reserved.
Oh yeah... earliest will be Wednesday of next week or Thursday.
Cole had amazing tests results come in. I already sent out the good news about his T cells and the most recent test was to see if they work.
I had a small meeting with Cole's doctor today and he was on cloud nine! He could not believe the results. He was being optimistic however this is beyond what they were at least hoping for.
Cole's T cells are normal and they work. Mark and I have waited so long to hear the words normal and working in the same sentence as Cole's and we are still in shock.
I seen the numbers today and the test is very interesting. They compare Cole's blood to a donor blood that has everything Cole didn't have. There were results from Jan and this month. Jan's test results were very poor and Cole had nothing going his way. What a change... this test showed that in some tests Cole's blood was better then the donor!! It truly is a miracle and we all feel the cord blood is the reason. The doctor's feel that Cole has been the easiest transplant that they have ever had.
Now mind you, we have a very very long road ahead of us but the worst is over with. Everything that comes our way from now on in can be helped with meds or Cole will just be able to fight it. After the 1 yr mark comes, Cole will start to get his shots again, 2, 4, 6 month and then play catch up with the rest he has never had.
Cole is starting a not so new drug today. He was on this drug before however for being on it for so long it started to effect his liver. His liver is stable now and they are willing to try at least 1/2 of the normal dose, do blood work on Sunday and Tuesday to get a picture of what his liver is doing. If all is good on Tuesday we should be home Wednesday at the earliest.
The house is completed meaning renos. Just some finishing touches. My sister's and my parents' are going to hand the new curtains etc tomorrow, Michelle is coming up on Saturday, Mark is going home that same day to set up the anti chamber room. Mark will start to take some stuff home and Michelle will take some back also. Tammy is coming up some day next week either Monday or Tuesday to take more home, I have to go home on Tuesday to finish off the grocery shopping. And then ---- The BIG day!
We will of course be coming back weekly for an unknown amount of time. That is ok with us. We will be home and be a family again!!
Lastly, we want to thank everyone for all their support, the fund raising and just caring. You all have no idea what this has meant to us. Ok the tears are coming back again and Cole needs a bath!!
